There are dozens of trails throughout the region. Independence Trail 10 miles out of Grass Valley is the nations first wheelchair accessible trail, made from using one of the old Mining 'Flumes' which once carried thousands of gallons of water for Hydraulic mining. The B ear Yuba Land Trust operates and maintains many of these trails and ask to see the booklet which maps out over twenty of their trails.
Black Swan Trail- off Mooney Flat Rd close to Highway 20 . An old Hydraulic Mine site is now a large pond with trails up and around the old diggins.
Independence Trail- about 10 miles north on Highway 49. This is a very easy trail and is mostly wheelchair accessible. Parts of the trail can be closed in Winter due to mudslide and fallen trees.
Hirschman's Pond- within Nevada City limits, this smaller version of Black Swan was also an old Hydraulic Mine site. Very easy walking and biking as well.
Deer Creek Tribute Trail- A easy to medium hike along the Deer Creek in Nevada City. A cable suspension bridge crosses the creek.
Buttermilk Bend Trail- A beautiful easy hike along the South Yuba River at Bridgeport. Spring is especially gorgeous with the blooming of hundreds of indigenous wild flowers.
