The Swan Levine House is a unique historic Grass Valley lodging. This renovated Queen Anne Victorian was a project undertaken in 1974 by the owners, Howard and Peggy Levine. Their concept was to incorporate all phases of the history of this Grass Valley lodging facility by including its history as home and a hospital. The owners have added their passion of the fine art of printmaking including an exciting and eclectic art collection. The building is so spacious there is ample space provided to all the guests to enjoy privacy, but being able to mingle with others at breakfast. This Grass Valley lodging hosts many community events and is an integral part of the downtown, with both Howard and Peggy, fully involved in the community.
This gracious home was built in 1867 by John and Catherine Fahey owners of the Alison Ranch Mine. William Campbell, a local merchant who made his fortune selling mining equipment, general supplies, and baked goods, purchased and then remodeled the house in 1895 to its present Queen Anne style. The house was later sold to Dr. John Jones. He and his brother Dr. Carl Jones, converted the home to a hospital named after their father, Dr. W.C. Jones. The building continued to serve as a community medical center until 1968.
