OUR ROOMS
The Swan Levine House has four large guest suites with private baths, and two rooms that share a bath. The interior decoration of each room distinguishes the House from other lodgings. Suites are extra-large, equipped for sharing with friends and family. WiFi and Air Conditioning throughout the House.

The Historical Home
The Swan Levine House played a significant role in the history of Nevada County. It was built in 1867 by John and Catherine Fahey, who were partners in the Alison Ranch Mine. They sold it to William Campbell, a local merchant who made his fortune selling mining equipment.
Campbell remodeled the house in 1895 after a fire to its present Queen Anne style. After his death, the house was acquired by brothers, Doctors Carl and John Jones, they opened it as a hospital and named it after their father, Dr. W.C. Jones. The Jones Hospital operated until 1960 when it closed.
The house is classic Queen Anne Victorian, complete with cupolas, sitting rooms, parlors, and gracious porches. History buffs can view photos of official records, and first-person accounts about the house and the people who worked here over its 150-year existence.

In 1973, Howard Levine and Margaret (Peggy) Warner Swan renovated it as a guest house with a focus on visual arts and printmaking. Their paintings and prints form the backbone of an extensive collection of Northern California art hung throughout the house. Howard still teaches classes in the printmaking studio. Sadly, Peggy succumbed to cancer in 2017. Today, Howard and Posy host guests, lead workshops at the house, and invite you to experience where rich history and vibrant culture meet.
